The NAS is able to give support and guidance to help NAS members run investigation projects. Our Project's Sub-Committee has put together resources and created a project proposal template to help our Members who would like to run projects for other members, helping to bring ideas to fruition.

Using the Lloyd’s Register Archive to investigate the development of colonial ports in Australia and Pakistan
Since 2019 the NAS has been recording and researching a historic wreck found by a dive boat skipper off the Sussex coast. Now designated as a protected wreck, the NAS is working with volunteer divers to help document the site for the UK and Dutch heritage agencies. Discover more here...
Maritime Archives is a new UK–Pakistan partnership to build skills in maritime archaeology and research into underwater cultural heritage along Pakistan’s coast.
There are thousands of potentially polluting wrecks (PPW) that are threatening the safety of our marine environment and the safety of those that use it. This data gathering project will create a framework for a potentially polluting wrecks (PPW) citizen science monitoring scheme to make both the environment and water-users safer.

The Adopt a Wreck scheme was originally devised in 2000 with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The scheme serves as a way of encouraging the public to actively record the sites they are visiting and everyone who has adopted a site is encouraged to submit their work for the annual Adopt a Wreck Award. The Big Anchor Project aims to develop a global tool for the identification of anchors. The initiative is managed by the NAS with the help of various project partners and supporters. The project is building a freely accessible, online database of anchors which can serve as a valuable tool for anybody undertaking research or with a general interest in the subject.
In 2025 we partnered with the North of Scotland Archaeological Society to investigate a medieval crannog (lake dwelling) in Loch Achilty. In September 2025 we spent a week documenting and excavating a section of the crannog to better understand its occupation and use.
